As usual, the people behind the scenes in the Corvette design and development department wanted to send the C4 out on a high note. This, of course, would require giving the outgoing 1996 C4 a lot of horsepower. To do this, all 1996 Grand Sport Corvettes came with the LT4, an upgraded version of the base LT1 engine.

The LT4 had a few technical advantages over the Corvette's base LT1 engine, such as a slightly higher compression ratio of 10.8:1. The LT4 also had special aluminum cylinder heads, which had larger intake and exhaust ports.

Without a doubt, the LT4 outshined most of the Corvette engines that came out during the fourth generation, mostly because of how well it performed. The LT4 proved to be more than capable, putting out 330 horsepower and 340 lb-ft of torque.
