What is the difference between a 1-Rib and 3-Rib Differential on a C5 Corvette?

The 3-rib casing is more robust. On both differentials, everything inside is identical. The 3.42 badge on the Z06 3-rib differential will read "SP." This lettering indicates that the differential's gears have been shot-peened or micro-polished. Corvette models prior to 2001 typically have a 1-rib differential, whereas models after 2001 have a 3-rib differential.
